This Is How Meditation Has Helped Me Throughout My Life

I am a 76-year-old grandmother and have been practising Sahaja Yoga for 34 years. A young boy from Chennai said, “Aunty, whoever talks about you says you are very strong”. “Yes, I am strong, but not like a wrestler”. I am mentally and spiritually strong, and that is because of my honest and sincere practice of Sahaja Yoga. It has taught me everything. How to be good and strong, how to keep healthy, and how to be a person whom everybody wants to meet and know.

From the day I joined I have followed all the teachings of Sahaja Yoga very obediently, without any doubts or questions. We are not asked to do difficult things like fasting, giving up family, being very sober and not going for parties or movies. BUT we must live a moral life and avoid all things that are wrong and sinful. How will we know?

The day you get realisation, the Divine Energy of the Kundalini starts spreading into all the cells of the body and starts cleaning us from inside.

All this dirt must be removed, so we are taught to sit with our feet in a bucket of salt water. The water element takes it all out.

We are also taught to sit in meditation early in the morning, because between 4:30 and 6:00 am is Brahma Muhurtham, when the divine rays are very strong, and the flowers open, and birds sing. This is my daily routine. Sometimes I may feel pinpricks on my fingers and palms. They told me in the Centre that these are signs that there is some disturbance in a Chakra. Every chakra has a nerve ending on a fingertip, and according to the finger, we can know which chakra is in trouble.

I even learnt that on every chakra a reflection of God has a seat, and every chakra has qualities that we have to follow. Like the chakra at the neck is the place of Shri Krishna, and the qualities there are to speak sweetly to everyone. If I have been rude and bossy, and hurt anyone’s feelings, this chakra will get disturbed and I will feel it on a finger.

Not only this, but we also learn how to repair any damage that we may do by our bad behaviour, or by harming others. So, we are always alerting to find out our mistakes and correct ourselves.

So regular practice of Sahaja Yoga makes me a better person.

I do not get angry, so I do not get blood pressure or tension headaches. I am always happy with what I have, so I don’t try to do cheating and fraud to gather money or property. I do not speak rudely to anyone in my house – my husband, my children, my grandchildren, or the people who come and help us in the house.

I am not strict about what time I eat, what time I sleep, or any other requirement. But I am regular with my meditation, my foot soaking, and attending the collective programs in the Centre. I learnt how to balance myself!

I Am As Busy As You Are But I learnt How To Balance Through Meditation!

It has not been many years I am practicing Sahaja Yoga but in these past few years, I have grown immense respect for the life god has blessed me with.

My life involves a close knit family, which means an everyday play of expectations, and household chores. A generation Z boy and the time he demands. With these is my passion towards my profession. Working in the industry brings its own set of expectations, and negativities.

Few years back when I was oblivious to this unique method of meditation, my day began with the three thoughts:

  1. A guilt of not fulfilling expectations
  2. A stress of how to complete so many things planned for the day
  3. A dissatisfaction within me and for my environment.

But still I was surviving because I knew God is looking from somewhere up there. Then one day I got my realization, which in simple terms is imbibing Sahaja Yoga meditation method. It raises the kundalini energy which lies within each human. This energy rejuvenates everything in life.

Every morning and every evening, I sit for meditation. The time maybe as little as 15 minutes but, in those 15 minutes I surrender all my actions and thoughts to almighty. In that less time, when there is no thoughts in my head I feel serenity. With practice I am able to sustain the feeling of quietness while I do the daily chores. The quietness comes from “Nirvicharita” or Thoughtlessness. It is a state when you are aware of everything happening around you but the happenings and the surrounding does not affect you. In other words you do not think about what is happening, why is it happening, what will happen if something happens…and the never ending stream of thoughts.

When you are not thinking about what has happened (the past) and what will happen (the future), you are in the present moment.

And when you are in the present moment:

  • The guilt of work not done diminishes because thinking about it is pondering about past. Past cannot change.
  • The stress of the day lying ahead does not affect. What lies ahead is the future. Future is what we do not know.
  • The dissatisfaction is not felt. You are filled with positivity and keenness to see what god has planned for you.

Being in thoughtless awareness is just a small gift of Sahaja Yoga to us. It helps in being attentive, focused towards work, and not getting distracted by inert things. In short, able to balance all aspects of my life with her blessings.

H.H.Shri Nirmala Devi (beloved Mataji for all Sahaja Yogi and Yoginis) who is the founder of Sahaja Yoga has given a much deeper and stronger knowledge through this meditation method. I wish every human being is introduced and able to accept the blessing from her.

Sahaja Yoga- A Way Of Life

Life’s challenges, its surprises and its increasing pace and pressures have made us very stressful. People are at constant struggle to keep up with the demands and at the same time keep their personal balance. Each morning we start up afresh and as the day goes by these pressures get to us. We have to manage our never-ending list of basic routines like taking care of family, handling of day-to-day chores, managing the relations, etc. To add to that, there is the stress of essential long-term planning of future education of the kids and our retirement . Before we know we get sucked into the race, using up all our energy towards realizing of these goals. But the question that is really intriguing is that that do we really have to get sucked in? We usually think we have no choice but on the contrary, the choice is entirely ours.

It is true that we cannot just put up our hands in dismay & shun away from our responsibilities and declare that we cannot do it anymore. We cannot renounce our family and go to the Himalayas to seek peace. But how we receive these challenges and what effect they take on us makes all the difference. So the real challenge is to seek peace and balance despite the surrounding commotion.

I have found the answer to this in meditation. It equips me to keep up with the challenges of life without getting sucked in. I have been practicing Sahaja Yoga Meditation for over 20 years now. The meditation process awakens the dormant energies and re-energizes our energy centers (called plexuses in scientific language). The awakening of the Kundalini aligns these centers so that the inner energy can flow. Though the awakening of the kundalini is quite ‘sahaja’, but the transformation is an evolving process. We can say that meditation is not just a technique but it’s a way of life. In a more technical language, we can state that the energies that we awaken within us help us in making the connection to our inner peace which in turn makes us more balanced, focused, patient, forgiving and at ease with whatever situation we are in.

Meditation is not just confined any age it can be very well practiced by children and young adults as well. With the bombarding of information happening from all the directions, invasion of technology, the influence of media and more connection with the outside world, the children are so much more knowledgeable than what we were at their age. But I feel, they are less innocent and rather dry in their personalities. Meditation helps the children to be more discreet, balanced, and confident and be compassionate at the same time. It makes them stronger and yet inculcates softer qualities that make them better humans.

In Sahaja Yoga, it is recommended to meditate 10 -15 minutes daily, morning and evening. As we go deeper it the retention of experience of joy and peace becomes easier. Its effect on lives is quite evident and visible. We can say that Sahaja Yoga is not just a meditation technique but a philosophy of living a fulfilling life.

Sahaja Yoga effective in controlling epilepsy, says Abdul Kalam

Sahaja yoga in combination with traditional anti-epileptic drugs has been found to control epilepsy successfully, according to eminent defence scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Delivering a lecture in absentia. on “Indigenous Technology: The Impact on the Health Care in the Next Millennium” at the first joint annual conference of the Indian Epilepsy Association and Indian Epilepsy Society here, Dr Kalam said. “The Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS) has successfully demonstrated that application of Sahaja yoga along with the conventional anti-epileptic drugs could control epilepsy’.
Practice of yoga for six months with reduced allopathic drugs, reduced the frequency, intensity and duration of epileptic Seizures (fits). he added.
“Yogic practice led to the tranquillity of the brain as indicated by the alpha activity of EEG, reduced sympathetic activity, and stress response. Blood lactic acid level was also reduced due to better aerobic capacity” he said adding yoga with specific drugs results in amelioration of the symptoms of epilepsy. Dr. Kalam, who is the principal scientific adviser to the Central Government, however, sounded a note of caution saying long-term use of anti-epileptic drugs might lead to disturbances in cerebral functions.
So it would be better to stabilize the drug level at a minimum effective dose, he added. Experimental studies conducted by DIPAS along with the All India Medical Sciences revealed that the undernourished young children were more prone to epilepsy. Scientists should explore methods for prevention and effective treatment with the least side effects for control of epilepsy.

Sahaja Yoga’s Impact on Evolution in Human Beings – An Analytical Study

A Brief Summary on “An Analytical Study of Sahaja Yoga Impact on Development and Evolution in Human Beings”

Introduction

The origin of creation is supposed to have happened due to an explosion of energy defined as Big bang. Resultant creation is made of visible and invisible, living and non-living and other seen-unseen elements. In the creation all these exist at four main levels known as Physical, subtle, causal and super-causal levels of existence. These levels are also the expression of divinity in the creation.
A human being is a living system made of visible and invisible elements and is considered a replica of universe. Thus a human being also has four levels of bodies known as physical body, subtle body, causal body and super-causal body. All these bodies have their elements and the divine forces behind the elements which contribute to working and behaviour of a human being in daily life. Some of the major elements of four bodies are,
  • Physical Body. Body, Body Parts, Organs, Systems. All that makes physical body work as a living system and perform physical actions.
  • Subtle Body. Mana (Mind), Buddhi (Intellect), SukshamIndriya (Subtle Senses). Controls working of physical body and human being as a living being.
  • Causal Body.Chitta (Attention), Ahankar (Ego), SukshmaPran (Subtle Life Force). Controls working of subtle body and through subtle physical body actions.
  • Supercausal Body. Atma (Soul), Pramatma (God), Prakarti (Nature). Controls working of causal body and through causal body working of subtle and physical body.

Working of Human Being and Behaviour

A human being as a living beings works under the control of brain-mind system. Brain is an element and part of physical body and Mind, an element of subtle body. But brain and mind are also effected by the state of causal and super-causal body elements like chitta, life force, prakarti, atma etc. Behaviour of a human being is the result of various internal factors and is observed as impression and expression caused by the impact of actions like words, dealings, reactions etc. on other livings and non-livings in general but human beings in particular. In a human being behaviour is the ultimate result of all the elements of various bodies and their impact on physical body elements which exhibit as behaviour.
Human behavior is also effected by some invisible factors like anger, fear, lust, greed, tension, anxiety etc. which are the result of actions and reactions of various body elements and exhibit as behaviour at physical and subtle levels. These are all drivers of behavior in a human being. By controlling these drivers and their impact on the elements of bodies behaviour can be controlled.
Yoga and meditation work at elements of various bodies and hence control items of behaviour.

Role of Yoga in Human Behaviour

Yoga means union of individual living with creator or Atma with Paramatma. Meditation is the process of creating this union. In practical terms meditation and yoga mean bringing peaceful integration in elements of four bodies i.e. body, mind, attention and soul etc. and achieve the goal of yoga i.e. union of atma with paramatma which reflects as joy and peace, happy mind and thoughts and ailment free health.
Meditation and Yoga as tools of human development have been accepted world over
Sahaja yoga, though an old system, has been revived and taught in recent times. Sahaja Yoga works using kundalini awakening as the source of achieving yoga.
Kundalini is the divine energy resident in every human being and imparts life and balance and flows through Nervous System (Nadis) and Plexuses (Chakras) in the physical body. Problems in a human being are caused by imbalance in the flow of energy which when balanced removes the problems .
Kundalini normally remains dormant but on being awakened flows through Nadis and Chakras and energises every cell and organ connected through nerves and plexuses. By meditation one can bring balance in this flow in the body and achieve benefits at physical (Body and Organs),subtle (Mind, Intellect) and even causal (Ego, Consciousness) bodies which are cause of anger, tension and all other weaknesses.

This also imparts an awareness of higher level known as self realisation.
